December was a relatively quiet month for whiskey releases. However, some all-stars did hit shelves and hopefully made it under some trees.

Hidden Barn Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Series Two

Hidden Barn is a new whiskey brand that came out earlier this year and was launched in collaboration with Old Forester alum Jackie Zykan, Royce Neeley of Neeley Family Distillery and Nate Winegar and Matt Dankner of Colorado’s 5280 Whiskey Society.

Hidden Barn Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Series Two is composed of 10 barrels blended by Zykan, the master blender. The bourbon has a suggested retail price of $74.99.

Stranahan’s Snowflake Humboldt Peak

Stranahan released its annual Snowflake expression, called Humbolt Peak. The whiskey sold out within hours of launching. Humbolt Peak was aged between five and 10 years in new white American oak barrels before being moved to wine, sherry and rum barrels.

High West High Country American Single Malt

High West released its annual, extremely limited, High Country American Single Malt. The new whiskey is a blend of copper pot-distilled whiskies ranging in age from 2-8 years. The final product is bottled at 44% ABV and sells for $79.99.

The brand said that High Country American Single Malt was created out of its appreciation for single malt scotch. It describes the whisky as “an homage to the single malt category, with the spirit of the American West.”

Old Forester 1910 Extra Extra Old

Louisville, Kentucky-based whiskey distillery Old Forester released the latest edition in its 117 Series: Old Forester 1910 Extra Extra Old.

The new whiskey is a double-barreled bourbon that spent two years aging in its second, heavily charred barrel — a length the company described in a news release as “an unusually long time.”

The Glenturret Prowess

Scotch whisky brand The Glenturret announced the release of the second single malt whisky in its Trinity Series in Lalique: The Glenturret Prowess.

There are only 320 bottles of the new Scotch available, and it is bottled at 43.9% ABV without chill filtration or caramel coloring. Each of the bottles is presented in a crystal decanter designed by Marc Larminaux, who is the artistic and creative director at Lalique.

Booker’s Bourbon Unveils 4th and Final Release of 2022: Pinkie’s Batch

Booker’s Bourbon announced the release of the final batch of its 2022 collection: Booker’s Batch 2022-04, “Pinkie’s Batch.”

This batch is named after Booker Noe’s dad, the original Frederick Booker Noe, who apparently was called Pinkie by his family and friends, for some unknown reason. Unusually for a Noe, Frederick wasn’t in the bourbon business (he was the vice president of a local bank), but he and Booker would bond over hunting quail and watching football, according to Booker’s Bourbon.

Bushmills 30 Year Old Single Malt Whiskey

Bushmills, the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery, announced the release of the third expression in the Bushmills Rare Cask series, a 30-year-old single malt finished in Madeira casks.

Bottled at 98 proof, this extremely limited release carries a suggested retail price of $999.99.

Barrell Bourbon New Year 2023

Barrell Craft Spirits has released its annual bourbon to toast the New Year with: Barrell Bourbon New Year 2023.

The new bourbon is a blend of a 5-, 6-, 7-, 8- and 10-year-old straight bourbon whiskeys, bottled at cask strength 113.54 proof. The suggested retail price for Barrell Bourbon New Year 2023 is $89.99.

A. Smith Bowman Cask Strength Bourbon Batch #2

Buffalo Trace-owned distillery A. Smith Bowman unveiled the second batch of its A. Smith Bowman Cask Strength Bourbon. Aged a minimum of 10 years with barrels hand-selected by Master Distiller Brian Prewitt and distiller David Bock, the annual cask-strength offering is bottled at a hazmat proof of 144.5.

A. Smith Bowman, Virginia’s oldest distillery, released this cask-strength bourbon for a suggested retail price of $99.99 per 750-milliliter in select U.S. markets beginning mid-December.

Wyoming Whiskey 10 Year Anniversary Edition Bourbon

Wyoming Whiskey announced the launch of its 10 Year Anniversary Edition Straight Bourbon Whiskey, released to celebrate the distillery’s 10th anniversary.

For this release, Wyoming Whiskey founding Master Distiller Steve Nally and Master Blender Nancy Fraley selected and batched a 10-year-old bourbon from 20 casks that were filled in November and December 2011.

Tincup Fourteener Bourbon

Tincup whiskey, the brand founded by Stranahan’s co-founder Jess Graber, announced the launch of its fourth and oldest expression: Tincup Fourteener.

The 14-year bourbon is the first iteration of what will be an annual limited-edition release that pays homage to Colorado’s 14ers — mountains standing 14,000 feet or higher. The first edition of Tincup Fourteener is dedicated to Long’s Peak, which stands at 14,259 feet, making it the tallest mountain in Rocky Mountain National Park. Long’s Peak is one of 58 14ers in Colorado.

Vermont distillery WhistlePig Whiskey unveiled its latest limited-edition whiskey: 10-year-old PiggyBank Rye.

The whiskey is aged 10 years and comes bottled at 110 proof in a 1 liter pig-shaped decanter, which is a replica Berkshire Bitter Pig decanter. The whiskey, which celebrates the 10-year anniversary of WhistlePig winning its first “Best Rye” award, pours from the pig’s rear.

George Dickel 17 Year Old Reserve

Fan-favorite Tennessee whiskey George Dickel 17 Year Old Reserve returned to stores in December.

When the bottle was originally released in 2016, the whiskey came in a 375-milliliter bottle. This year, however, the bottle is being sold in a 750-milliliter size. George Dickel Reserve is cask strength and aged 17 years.
