‘A Baptism of Fire’ Ardbeg’s Newest Scotch Whisky
In honor of Ardbeg Day, an annual event held by the distillery, the scotch whisky connoisseurs debuted their most firey release yet: Scorch.
Scorch has been aged in ex-bourbon casks that have been charred heavily. This year Ardbeg Day will be held virtually on the 5th of June, 2021, the last day of Fèis Ìle, Islay’s whiskey and music festival.
“This year will be my first Ardbeg Day ever: a baptism of fire! It’s a shame we Ardbeggians can’t enjoy it together in person, but the online event is shaping up to be tremendous fun. With a whole virtual world to explore, including fantasy inns, campfire tales, medieval feasts, and live tastings, there’s plenty for people to be excited about this year.” Colin Gordon, Ardbeg’s distillery manager via The Drinks Business.
The Drinks Business relayed that Scorch is 46% ABV whisky and boasts aromas of soot, smoke, aniseed, and patchouli. There are also flavors of grilled fare and black licorice. Ardbeg Scorch will be available to buy from Ardbeg’s site and other online retailers as early as the 27th of May 2021, priced at £100 (US$139).
“Ardbeg Scorch is our tribute to the legendary dragon of Islay. By using our most heavily-charred casks, we’ve created a fire-breathing beast of a dram!” Director of distilling and whisky creation, Dr Bill Lumsden.
