  • Excerpt: Depending how you look at it Barton could receive accolades or criticism for this release. It’s great to see them releasing a new Bottled in Bond bourbon, but considering it’s so similar to their existing products, and at a much higher price by comparison, it’s easy to dismiss it.

  • Excerpt: If you’re a fan of 1792 bourbon, you’ll likely enjoy this. It’s well-balanced, nuanced and versatile, and holds its own when sipped neat, with a small rock or two, as well as with a couple of drops of bitters.

  • Excerpt: This widely available bourbon seems to dwell in the age sweet spot, is nicely balanced with oak, and comes at a price that leaves little cause for hesitation.

  • Excerpt: The one thing this expression really has going for it is balance, as the flavors that are there really work together nicely. I enjoyed this expression more than others from Barton, but there just wasn’t enough here to really impress me or entice me to keep more than one bottle on the shelf.

  • Excerpt: A little air is beneficial on all of these fronts, but even time can’t dull the heavy-duty oakiness that pervades the whiskey from start to finish.

  • Intro:

Distilled by Barton for the 1792 product line, this particular release is a Bottled in Bond designation. While there isn't a discrete age statement on the label, we know it's at least 4 years old, along with the other qualifications that come with Bonded releases.

  • Nose:

Rich banana candies, caramel, tiny bit of fudge, light oak structure

  • Taste:

Medium mouth feel. No heat, nice syrupy character. Bananas foster, honey, praline, slivered almond, a hint of pepper. Nice clove and spice.

  • Finish:

Medium finish, more banana and creme brulee. Reminds me of a banana split, where the banana is present but not dominating.

  • Overall:

Lots of banana here but well blended. Banana split, with nuts on top.

  • Score:

    6
