Distilled by Benriach and bottled by them as well after 11 years of aging in a Moscatel wine cask, this release was distilled in 2009, bottled in 2020 and features bottling at cask strength with no coloring or filtering.
Sweet honey, pears, plums, a touch of red fruits. Jammy and sweet on the nose, a good deal of Dole fruit cocktail syrup. Rich and interesting.
Sweet on the palate, moderate mouthfeel with a good deal of viscosity. A touch of ethanol, not surprising and certainly not punishing. Sweet malt, honey, a touch of tangerine and plenty of caramel and maple. Moscatel comes through nicely, without being too sweet or cloying.
Long finish. Spicy ginger, fresh pepper, a touch of clove and big, sweet juicy fruit notes combine nicely with butterscotch, buttercream frosting and a touch of tropical fruit.
Well developed and certainly a treat despite its less aggressive age statement. No matter the age on the cask, this release is drinking wonderfully, with rich complexity and a ton of enticing, tropical fruits.
