American Highway Whiskey

  • Distiller:

    Various

  • Bottler:

    Bardstown Bourbon Co

  • ABV:

    48%

  • Age:

    NAS

  • Price:
    $$$$$
  • Raided Score: 88
  • Publication: Whiskey Raiders
  • Excerpt: Interesting, not exceptional, but on par with the best of what's blended in this fashion and coming out of Bardstown Bourbon Company. The addition of old stocks really helps crush the youth of this pour for the most part, and while you'll see it peek out here and there, this is a celebrity whiskey that's easy to get behind if you can handle the pricetag.

  • Excerpt: I don’t have a lot of difficulty accepting that this would be Brad Paisley’s bourbon ideal, nor any real complaint to file with that ideal. The Rolling Rickhouse? It’s a gimmick. But at least a good bourbon came out of it.

  • Intro:

Distilled by a variety of producers, bottled by Bardstown Bourbon Company, and backed by one of Country music's most prolific superstars, this is Brad Paisley's American Highway Reserve Bourbon Whiskey. A quarter of the blend spent more than a year, traveling across the country with Brad Paisley on tour, and was blended back in. It contains 28% 4yr whiskey, 25% 4yr whiskey, 24% 13yr whiskey and 23% 15yr whiskey. That's a heck of a blend, much in the same vein as Bardstown Bourbon Company's own Fusion Series, which has been drinking pretty well. Let's see how this can stand on a stage all its own. Let's dive in.

  • Nose:

Sweet, buttery, creamy and maple forward. Light creme brulee, some oak, toffee and a cinnamon roll quality to it. It's sweet, has plenty of baking spice and dessert character, and while light on the oak, doesn't let those 4yr whiskeys show through.

  • Taste:

Medium mouthfeel that's just a touch light on the viscosity, although satisfying. Light and sweet, plenty of apple pie, pear, flaky pastry, cinnamon stick and a touch of toasted praline. Creamy, lightly oaky and lots of baking spice to balance.

  • Finish:

Long finish, light, sweet, faintly fruity, intensely dessert forward. Light on oak, surprisingly youthful for a blend such as this.

  • Overall:

Interesting, not exceptional, but on par with the best of what's blended in this fashion and coming out of Bardstown Bourbon Company. The addition of old stocks really helps crush the youth of this pour for the most part, and while you'll see it peek out here and there, this is a celebrity whiskey that's easy to get behind if you can handle the pricetag.
