  • Intro:

Distilled by Beam and bottled under the Baker's label, this is the 2023 release of an old favorite: Baker's 13 year old single barrel bourbon. Bottled at 107 proof, this is a single-barrel release, so there are bound to be some profile differences among the bottlings between markets this year. Let's dive in!

  • Nose:

Lush and full of dessert, this is a peanut brittle bomb in a glass. Nougat, toffee, peanut brittle, caramel and brown sugar pop through on the nose. Decadent and fudgy.

  • Taste:

The palate is rich and viscous, easy to pull more peanut, caramel and crème brûlée notes right away. This is a desserty whiskey from start to finish, and I'm impressed how nougaty and peanut-brittle-driven this pour is. Lovely, total dessert experience on the palate.

  • Finish:

Moderate finish with a prickle of heat. The crème brûlée, caramelized sugar and praline character continues.

  • Overall:

If you love dessert, you will love the 2023 Baker's 13 (assuming you got the same barrel that I did). It's very much a peanut brittle and caramel toffee bomb all the way through. As a whiskey drinker with a sweet tooth... I'm in.
