  • Intro:

An April 2023 release from Bardstown Bourbon Co., this is a blend of 7-year-old rye and 17-year-old bourbon. The blend was aged for 23 months in Foursquare Rum barrels on the top floor of Bardstown Bourbon Co.'s rickhouse G.

  • Nose:

Bold and rich, full of maple, red berries, satisfying sweet cream and a lack of oak. Sweet oak, baking spice, a big fudge and root beer sweetness pops on the nose.

  • Taste:

Rich on the palate with a prickle of heat, but the rum is really clear on this one. Maple, brown sugar, rich oak, pepper and a touch of tobacco and funk. It’s half bourbon, half rum, and it just works. It’s a heavy finish but not too heavy.

  • Finish:

Long. Maple sweetness reigns supreme with a touch of ginger, oak, root beer and pleasant, light plum.

  • Overall:

I like this. Rum finishes are tricky, and Bardstown (and Foursquare) have just what it takes.
