Excerpt: This pour is like a great, fruity dessert that you’d get at a fancy restaurant. I hope they keep this as a standard in their lineup because it’s well worth the money and something fun that’s easy to reach for.
Excerpt: I’d be happy drinking this in an apartment in front of a wheezing, drippy air conditioner, too. I would be happy as long as I had this by my side. That sounds sad, but it’s a really cool and unusual whiskey. I’d pick some up, because—like a gorgeous Pacific Northwest summer—it won’t stick around long.
Excerpt: Everything from the nose through to the lengthy finish is nothing short of wonderful. A drop of water does help to tame this whiskey down a bit and really opens up the flavors.
Excerpt: Incredible rye with a boldness that’s tough to find. Complex yet drinkable, Barrell Seagrass is a bold demonstration in what happens when you embrace madness with a meticulous eye. All star material here.
Excerpt: To be blunt, this is very good. The experienced whiskey drinker will have a hell of a time analyzing all of the flavors in this, and the novice will appreciate the drinkability and it may even serve to bridge the gap for someone who is just beginning their trip into rye whiskey land.
Excerpt: There’s no denying Seagrass offers a unique flavor profile - that’s a given at this point - but that Barrell was able to make it work is the bigger takeaway.

House Review
Intro:
A blend of Canadian and Indiana Rye Whiskey, Barrell Seagrass is finished in a variety of Martinique Agricole Rum, Madeira and Apricot Brandy casks. Bottled at 59.2% ABV in one of the catchiest color schemes I’ve seen in a hot minute.
Nose:
Powerful and fragrant on the nose. Tons of fruit, rye spice, some bitter wine and loads of grassy citrus pop. Brown sugar.
Taste:
Big and boisterous on the palate. Spicy rye, loads of grassy lemon lime pop, the apricot shows as does the Madeira wine. Powerful rye spice, some understated pepper and oak, transitioning to a dry and fruity back palate.
Finish:
Long finish, admirable spiciness. Really incredible depth on this finish, it’s complex and full of flavor. Apples, pears, brown sugar, nougat combines with spicy pepper, grassy funk and a great oak structure.
Overall:
Incredible rye with a boldness that’s tough to find. Complex yet drinkable, Barrell Seagrass is a bold demonstration in what happens when you embrace madness with a meticulous eye. All star material here.
