  • Excerpt: The taste is spicy, oaky, and nutty with a very complex balance of baking spices, black pepper, touches of tropical fruits, and a hint of hazelnut. The finish is amazingly long and complex with a nice tropical character. Outstanding!

  • Intro:

A rare and hard to come by Irish Whiskey release, this 7yr bottling from Spot Whiskey features bottling at cask strength and maturation in a blend of casks: Bourbon casks, Sherry butts and Portuguese Madeira casks. Hunted far and wide, and available around $110, let's see if it's worth the hunt.

  • Nose:

Sweet, creme filled and packed with the smell of rising break, buttered biscuits, cinnamon buns, cream cheese sweetness and red berry notes. Currant, date fruit, toffee and light baking spice make this a complex pour to nose.

  • Taste:

Thick and rich on the palate, the proof helps this pour deliver a syrupy, flavorful texture. Sweet cream, roasted almonds, fig, strawberry, nutty sherry and vanilla cream build on the palate. The ABV is in check, brings a richness without any heat or punishment. Complex, fun, easy to drink but a blast to dig through all of the flavors.

  • Finish:

Long finish, laced with pineapple, honey, toffee, strawberry and a touch of cherry tart. Fun, interesting, a long finish worth enjoying.

  • Overall:

A special pour, Blue Spot 7yr delivers in a way few hyped, limited releases can, especially in the Irish Whiskey arena. It's worth tracking down for sure.
