  • Intro:

    Matured for 5 years in ex-bourbon, this release from Octomore is the 1st in their 9th edition line and is bottled at 59.1% ABV.

  • Nose:

    Heavy on the charcoal, burning wood, starting a Kingsford grill. Powerful, aggressive, with bold malt undertones. Caramel, a touch of orange peel, some salinity and maritime air.

  • Taste:

    Rich on the palate, spicy, ash forward, the ethanol is quite a bit more punishing. BBQ ribs, honey, lavender, lemon curd, a touch of oak - light as it might be. Ashy, meaty, citrusy peat is unrelenting.

  • Finish:

    Long finish, satisfying and punishing once more. There's no escaping the consistent, brash, peatiness of this release but it's somewhat satisfying at the same time.

  • Overall:

    While the ethanol in this release seems much more dialed up than others, this aggressive pour embodies what peat lovers love from Octomore. It's a quintessential X.1 and it's impossible to discount the power of these bottlings.
