Caol Ila 22yr Cadenheads Small Batch 1991

  • Distiller:

    Caol Ila

  • Bottler:

    Cadenheads

  • ABV:

    52.2%

  • Age:

    22 Years

  • Intro:

This is an ex-bourbon matured bottling of Caol Ila spirit distilled in 1991 and bottled in 2013. It is bottled at cask strength.

  • Nose:

Honey, biscuits, apple butter. Salt and pepper, faint smoke, butter cream. Nice minerality.

  • Taste:

Medium length, some heat. Apple butter note here persists. Salty with some nice pepper and a good blast of ashy smoke. The smoke and the salt and pepper components really balance the sweetness here. Very nice.

  • Finish:

Long, dry and ashy. Nice oak presence, good vanilla backbone plays well with the growing smoke.

  • Overall:

Complex and ever changing, this progresses from sweet and fruity to dry and smoky in a really great way.

  • Score:

    7
