  • Excerpt: Chicken Cock Kentucky Straight Rye is pretty good. Spicy enough to stand up, and not so hot that you wouldn't want it neat. It's not going to blow your mind with complexity, but it's not dull either.

  • Excerpt: Certainly a rye lover’s rye, as clove-studded orange sails into drying minerality and cracked pepper on the finish.

  • Excerpt: The finish sweetens up well enough, though a well-toasted cereal note never quite fades, and the whiskey never comes across as particularly elevated. At this price, I had hoped for a whole lot more.

  • Excerpt: Big fan of the bourbon, not so much the rye. This certainly isn't bad, but doesn't have the same depth and complexity. I think a couple more years and it'll be good to go, though.

  • Intro:

Also sourced, Chicken Cock Whiskey's Rye is a straight rye bottled as a part of the resurrection of the historic (and iconic) brand.

  • Nose:

Young, a touch musty. Some rye, honey, apple.

  • Taste:

Thin palate. Not a ton going on. Brown sugar, honey, pear, a hint of spice.

  • Finish:

Short finish, a bit of must and brown sugar here.

  • Overall:

Big fan of the bourbon, not so much the rye. This certainly isn't bad, but doesn't have the same depth and complexity. I think a couple more years and it'll be good to go, though.
