  • Excerpt: Overall, it's Buffalo Trace at barrel through and through. If you subtract a touch of tannin from Stagg Junior, this is what you get. Powerful, bold, rich and a cherry caramel delight. It's a winner, per the usual.

  • Intro:

This batch, Batch 10, of Colonel EH Taylor Barrel Proof represents the no age statement barrel proof bourbon release from Buffalo Trace. Quite difficult to track down, this bottling represents a brand recently claimed by the madness of modern day bourbon. Let's dive in.

  • Nose:

Bold baking spice, honey, char, chai, black tea, maple and a fat syrupy cherry note on the nose. Definitely a prickle of ethanol.

  • Taste:

Rich on the palate, there's a touch of ethanol before the cherry, caramel, maple, tobacco rise up. Tastes well aged, nice tannins, the cherry note is lovely and well pronounced.

  • Finish:

Long finish, rich, powerful. There's a good bit of ethanol here, but it's packed full of Luxardo cherry, toffee, creamy sweetness and a rich werther's caramels.

  • Overall:

Overall, it's Buffalo Trace at barrel through and through. If you subtract a touch of tannin from Stagg Junior, this is what you get. Powerful, bold, rich and a cherry caramel delight. It's a winner, per the usual.
