Distilled, aged and bottled by Corbin Cash in Atwater, California, this is 1917 Rye, made entirely from Merced Rye, a local strain known for its hardiness. Let's dive in!
Spicy and ethanol-driven, tons of herbal rye character and a bold clove note. With plenty of cola and root beer character, this rye is punchy and delectable on the nose.
Rich on the palate, oaky and dry and packed with maple. Pleasant, powerful, spicy. It’s all rye all day, and the proof promotes this rye punch to a syrupy, rich sip. The richness is really impressive, and the brown sugar, cola and spice work great here.
Long, heavy on clove and pepper with a touch of bitter oak and a rich, tannic, spearmint and rye spice. Long, long finish.
This pour will no doubt be polarizing, but it’s a bruiser of a rye and a relative surprise for me. Heavy and spicy, there’s no sign of youth, and if you can tackle the proof and rye spice, you’ll be a fan for sure.
