  • Excerpt: A great alternative view of Craigellachie without the sherry. The Armagnac finish brings softness and roundness to the spirit but does not at all overpower, allowing the spirit character to sing through. Rechar casks add another layer of sweet baked goods and toffee flavour without being too forceful.

  • Intro:

Distilled by Craigellachie and aged for 13 years, this new release sees further finishing in Armagnac casks that hail from the Bas region of Armagnac. It's bottled at 46% ABV. Craigellachie has always stood out a bit for incorporating age statements not often shared by competitors, and the Armagnac finish is just as atypical as well. Let's dive in!

  • Nose:

Sweet at first, malty and packed with pepper, rising bread, sourdough, honey and a touch of waxy fruits like apple, pear and peach.

  • Taste:

Medium viscosity on the palate, the armagnac shows up here a bit with the addition of spice, a good deal of tannin and a touch of caramel and grape. Spicier than the nose would have suggested, it adds some welcome complexity. Sweet, fruity, tannic, honey forward and laced with delicious, waxy fruits.

  • Finish:

Satisfying finish that hold on for a long, complex ride. Sweet honey, light toffee, a cornucopia of light fruits, Dole syrup and an oaky complexity from the Armagnac.

  • Overall:

Overall, this is a hit. It's unique, not bludgeoned by the finishing cask (thank you!) and genuinely introduces a unique finish on a strong footing.
