  • Excerpt: I wanted more smoothness from a whisky that’s been resting for over two decades. I might be tempted to cocktail with this one.

  • Intro:

This double casked expression finished in Oloroso sherry casks from Dewars carries a hefty 21yr age statement and was released in 375ml formats - a welcome concept in the whiskey world!

  • Nose:

Sweet cream, butter, rich red berries and some tobacco. Fig, cocoa, a bit of caramel. Enticing, to say the least.

  • Taste:

Sweet on the palate, moderate to rich mouth feel. Prune, cream, caramel, oak and a lovely smack of red berries from the Oloroso. Smallest hint of pepper and ash, blends well.

  • Finish:

Long finish. A bit of heat here, but the age, combination of old sherry notes and malt make for a great composition here.

  • Overall:

I liked this much more than I expected and I'm beyond ecstatic about releases like this coming in half bottle sizes. For $50 or so, this is a welcome bottling and one that deserves to be experienced.
