Dewar's Portuguese features an 8 year age statement of their standard blend, and sees some additional time maturing in Port wine casks - a sweet, fortified dessert wine. 40% ABV.
Sweet honey, light oak and cream, caramel and a hint of pepper. Faint youth here, it's light, fruity and creamy. The port notes aren't particularly vibrant or expressive on the notes - unexpected.
Sweet on the palate. Very faint smoke note, with some lumber, toffee and apricot. The Port wine influence is much more apparent here, lending a jammy, fruity quality in the form of marmalade, currant and cherry to the lightly smoky base spirit.
Short finish. Not particularly complex. A bit of heat, unexpected for 40% ABV, some jammy cherry, light smoke and minerality and a hint of sweet malt.
Overall, I hoped that the port would really elevate what Dewar's base blend is accomplished at doing but this release is thin and the Port only really shines on the palate.
