  • Intro:

Distilled by Driftless Glen in Baraboo, WI, this rye is a single barrel, barrel proof release that falls under their Distiller’s Select line of expressions. Hailing from Barrel #1876, this bottling is aged for 55 months and bottled at 61% ABV.

  • Nose:

Sweet, brown sugar on the nose. A bit of clove, fruit and some spearmint before bold cinnamon, clove and praline roll in.

  • Taste:

Medium mouth feel, with plenty of character. Brown sugar, praline, clove, pepper, some cocoa, and a bit of creme brûlée. Quite flavorful and full of character. A bit of heat, but not punishing.

  • Finish:

Medium to long finish. Really enjoyable here, with tons going on. The synthesis of brown sugar, clove and creme brûlée here is lovely and enticing.

  • Overall:

Hats off to Driftless Glen on this one. Easily the best Driftless Glen I’ve had - ever, and that overshadows casks I’ve picked and bought myself - and this is performing admirably.

  • Score:

    7
