  • Intro:

Distilled in 2011, this heavily sherried un-peated expression comes to us from Edradour in Scotland. Bottled independently, this whiskey spent the entirety of its aging in a first fill sherry butt, and yielded 396 bottles. Bottled without coloring, filtering or dilution.

  • Nose:

Rich caramel, honey, berry and pungent sherry. Toffee, light cocoa, some black pepper. Rich and syrupy, it's unmistakably dessert forward.

  • Taste:

Moderate viscosity on the palate. Sweet berry, honey, toffee. There's a surprising amount of base malt here despite the heavy wine influence. On the back palate, the syrupy character returns. Blackberry, plum, fig and rich cocoa and espresso. Ethanol is well placed, not too hot but plenty of richness.

  • Finish:

Long finish. Sweet, with peppery undertones. Toffee, honey, plum, some cocoa and a big, rich blackberry character.

  • Overall:

Overall, I'm always worried about these being too oversherried. Sometimes they taste too young, too hot, too bitter, too sweet. This one nails the profile, however, and while it's clear this was a very active cask, I think the choice to dump when they did was well founded. I love this and it drinks far too easy. Lovely pour.
