  • Excerpt: Overall, this release hits a lot of great high notes. It's an easy sipper, unique for many Irish products around its age, and comes in one of the more elegant designs for the category. Sure, you can't drink the packaging, but its strong performance tasting is nice to see in a world where brands often compensate for the quality of their whiskey with fancy boxes and packages. Egan's is a winner.

  • Intro:

Single malt and single grain come together in the 10yr 'Conviction' release from the Egan's brand. This release also features a cognac cask finish, using XO casks. It carries a 10yr age statement. Let's dig in!

  • Nose:

Perfume, honey, roasted nuts, faint orgeat notes, orange peel, lemon curd and a touch of caramel candies. Floral, supple, it doesn't try to rip your head off.

  • Taste:

Silky on the palate, medium viscosity. Ethanol is very much in check. Loads of butter cream, lavender, toffee, a touch of peaches and oranges. Light oak influence, lush sweetness and fruit.

  • Finish:

Short to medium finish. Pleasant, oakier than the nose or palate, and it helps. A spicy finish for Irish whiskey, but satisfying and helps offset the sweetness from the fruit on the palate.

  • Overall:

Overall, this release hits a lot of great high notes. It's an easy sipper, unique for many Irish products around its age, and comes in one of the more elegant designs for the category. Sure, you can't drink the packaging, but its strong performance tasting is nice to see in a world where brands often compensate for the quality of their whiskey with fancy boxes and packages.
