Excerpt: At the end of the day Evan Williams retains its reputation for producing above-average whiskey at below-average prices, and I’m especially happy that the extra money spent on the Single Barrel is rewarded with additional aromatic and gustatory intrigue.
Excerpt: With it being “extra aged” I would expect it to taste closer to the Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintages, but instead it comes across more like a water down version of the black label.
Excerpt: At worst you have a bourbon that you can experiment making cocktails with, however more likely than not, you’ll realize that you now have a bourbon that is straightforward and easy to enjoy.

House Review
Intro:
1783 has been a cornerstone of the Evan Williams profile for many years, although it often flew under the radar. Distilled by Heaven Hill and bottled for the Evan Williams line, this 1783 bottling comes from the recent brand overhaul and re-design. Let's see if they overhauled the contents as well.
Nose:
Biscuits, brown butter, cornbread and honey, toffee and vanilla. Light and sweet with plenty of dessert notes.
Taste:
Medium mouthfeel, there's some more toffee, honey and a light bread note. Faint pepper.
Finish:
Short but crisp finish. Cracked pepper, light vanilla bean and some rising bread.
Overall:
A great mid shelfer that can perform neat, on the rocks and in a cocktail, but don’t expect fireworks from all 3. The bump up in proof is minute, but noticeable, and it's a good choice on Heaven Hill's part.
