Distilled by an undisclosed producer in Canada, this Canadian rye is bottled by Found North Whisky in the USA at cask strength and 16 years old. Pretty hefty stats for a while selling just a touch over $100, and the label is quite clear on what this whiskey is and ins't - which is encouraging.
Sweet maple, cream, honey and this big brown sugar, syrupy note. It's bold, there's some ethanol, and it's sweet. All dessert, all spice, all day.
Powerful, syrupy mouth feel. Honey, maple, oak and rye spice. Light mint and clove, it's a spicy rye bomb. The ethanol is unmistakable, but so is the rye character. It's like a Whistle Pig single barrel with less oak tannin and more maple and ethanol.
Powerful, unbridled, rye spice. It's more tannic here, brown sugar reigns supreme with tobacco, pepper and orange rind.
Like a Whistle Pig bottling dialed up to 11, this particular blend is less nuanced than many other Alberta releases I've had, but it's unabashedly delicious. It showcases the things Canadian rye can do best, and it does it with vigor.
