  • Excerpt: If you missed last year’s edition, it's a decent stand-in. Although it's a bit more rough around the edges and hotter than last’s release, In the end, if you’ve had Dickel in its many various forms this year, it offers little new.

  • Excerpt: The taste has a nice flavor of black cherries, along with caramel cola, touches of black pepper and allspice, honey, and molasses. The finish has a lingering touch of black cherries, along with caramel and a hint of spice. Excellent!

  • Excerpt: Extraordinary length on the finish, which carries the chocolate, dark fruit, spice, mint, and rich oak notes for minutes. A phenomenal follow-up to its 13 year old antecedent, our 2019 Whisky of the Year.

  • Excerpt: It has a lot of flavor, but isn’t quite a sippin’ whiskey as it claims. For those reasons I believe it's best in spirit forward or simple shaken cocktails.

  • Excerpt: While I’m an unabashed fan of sweeter bourbons, Dickel’s 11 year old Bottled-in-Bond does lack more than a little of the balance and intrigue of last year’s 13 year old.

  • Excerpt: After the shortcomings of the 13yr Bottled in Bond, this is a clear step up, showing plenty of complexity and balance.

  • Intro:

A follow up to previous vintage releases from Dickel, the follow up to the 2005/13yr is this year's 11yr Bottled in Bond. Offered at the same low price as the first release, I'm curious to see if this batch can overcome some of my mild criticisms with the first.

  • Nose:

Fruity and bright on the nose. Unmistakably Dickel, but in a good way. Orange peel, lemon, grape, plum and sweet cream. Hint of pepper.

  • Taste:

Medium presence on the palate. Lightly chalky, plenty of fruit, pepper, vanilla bean and some honey on the palate. Light minerality.

  • Finish:

Short to medium finish. Lots of honey, barrel char, fruit and minerality. A great complexity in the finish here, leaving other past releases of this bottling in the dust.

  • Overall:

Unmistakably Dickel is probably the best synopsis for this, but looking past the distiller, this is one of their best releases in some time. After the shortcomings of the 13yr Bottled in Bond, this is a clear step up, showing plenty of complexity and balance.
