  • Excerpt: A great whisky. Not sure how much the rum cask adds there is some sweetness but you tend to get this from Glenfiddich anyway and it’s more bourbon-like than rum-like.

  • Excerpt: As you might imagine with a whisky finished in rum, there are lots of sugary aromas and flavors--molasses, toffee, and brown sugar to name a few.

  • Excerpt: I quite enjoy this one and find it to be an upgrade over other, super premium Glenfiddichs in comparable same price ranges. Nicely done, quite a bit of fun, and it pushes you a touch outside their standard profile. Yum.

  • Intro:

Distilled by Glenfiddich and matured for 21 years, this bottling from the brand features a Caribbean rum finish. The duration of the finish isn't disclosed and it's bottled at 40% ABV. Let's dig in.

  • Nose:

Malt driven and fun, plenty of character here. Sweet cream, honey, apple crisp, a touch of sweetness. I don't notice a ton of rum on the nose, but hopefully it's a bit more present on the palate.

  • Taste:

Sweet initially, then the tannin drops in. I don't typically equate Glenfiddich spirit with big tannins, but this 21yr Gran Reserva has quite a bit going on. Bitter oak, tobacco, sweet cream, caramel, cocoa, pecan and a touch of brown sugar. No ethanol, not super bold, but plenty complex.

  • Finish:

Medium to long finish, more oak here, maple, tobacco, light citrus and a big wallop of nougat. Satisfying complex, and a step up over other super premium Glenfiddich's.

  • Overall:

I quite enjoy this one and find it to be an upgrade over other, super premium Glenfiddichs in comparable same price ranges. Nicely done, quite a bit of fun, and it pushes you a touch outside their standard profile. Yum.
