Distilled by Glengoyne, this release features spirit aged for 25 years in a combination of American oak and sherry casks and is bottled at 48% ABV with no coloring or filtering.
Pungent brown sugar, pipe tobacco, spice drops and a whole pile of sherry goodness. Blackberry, blueberry preserve, stewed fruits and black currants.
Rich on the palate, even at 48% ABV. Sweet butter cream, honey, blackberry, luxardo cherry, raisin bread, tobacco and savory baking spice. It's deep, rich, enticing and presents plenty of layers and complexity to dig through and sup.
Long finish, sweet and packed with sherry character, coupled with great oak character and enough baking spice to offset the sweetness from the wine influence. It's a symphony, masterfully compiled.
Whew - that's a great Scotch. There's little else to say. The complexity and balance of malt to wood to sherry wine is exquisite and enjoyable. The sherry is evident, it's proofed nicely at 48% ABV and the flavor is complex with plenty of layers to enjoy and sit with.
