  • Excerpt: Overall, this is quite a treat. This reminds me of the greatness of early Glendronach CS with a touch more ginger.

  • Excerpt: It seems different batches of this Glengoyne show quite different characters. This one [Batch 4] is fruity and sweet, but somehow it picks up a slight bitterness which I didn’t expect.

  • Excerpt: Batch 8 is very good in its own right. Not a classic sherry bomb by anyone's standards (there are bourbon casks in the mix after all), but a flavourful whisky with subtle sherry influences. Maybe a little too oak forward at times, but nothing that can't be managed. And it takes water very well.

  • Excerpt: The dessert notes make this a delicious dram. I feel like this would pair well with a dark chocolate raspberry truffle.

  • Excerpt: [Batch 8] The nose is a bit shy, but I like the big and aromatic palate.

  • Excerpt: [Batch 4] Is particularly fruity with the sherry influence held back just a touch, but whilst animated, it also arrives somewhat hot. I was unable to find the perfect balance of water with this one – it takes away the bite, but at the same time reduces the vigour and fruitiness – which are the defining characteristics of this whisky. Nevertheless, I rather enjoyed this fruity little number and the price vs. quality and ABV are well judged and easy for me to recommend as worth trying.

  • Excerpt: A solid dram, not overly complex but rather nice. I can’t compare it with the other editions, but I think it’s a good whisky in its price range.

  • Excerpt: While the nose does not give much more than the high level of alcohol, the palate is immediately more interesting, with dry caramel and chocolate aromas. It also tastes sweeter than expected. With a drop of water, the sweetness becomes more present, but not too obvious.

  • Intro:

Composed of a blend of 20% 1st fill European Oak Sherry, 10% 1st fill American Oak Sherry and 70% hand-selected quality oak refill sherry casks per Glengoyne's marketing, this is their no-age-statement cask strength release at 59.2% ABV. Let's dive in!

  • Nose:

Sweet buttercream, caramel, candied ginger, spicy pepper, nice oak character and a big ol' dollop of vanilla bean ice cream and peaches.

  • Taste:

Rich on the palate, a bit of heat, but plenty going on. Spicy pepper, candied ginger, honey, caramel, stewed fruits, a touch of blackberry and apricot. Sweet, sherry forward, spicy and some nice tannin here.

  • Finish:

Spicy but packed with character on the finish. Rich oak, tannin, sweet buttercream, ginger, raspberry and blackberry, boatloads of toffee.

  • Overall:

Overall, this is quite a treat. This reminds me of the greatness of early Glendronach CS with a touch more ginger. Those days are long gone in the Glendronach line, but it's refreshing and exciting to see the quality demonstrated here.
