  • Excerpt: Chapter One is different from other Glengoyne whiskies, which is surprising if it’s meant to celebrate its heritage and quintessential features. It feels young, with green notes and spices instead of the richer sherry flavours.

  • Intro:

    The first chapter of a new series from Glengoyne, this release was bottled in 2019, which perhaps indicates this book will be written quite slowly. Drinking this here in 2022, the bottle shows 48% ABV, no chill filtering, though no mention of coloring. The Legacy doesn't carry an age statement. Let's dive in.

  • Nose:

    Leather, honey, tobacco, toffee and fig. Touch of ethanol, it's lighter, sweeter, though richer than some of the younget Glengoyne offerings on the shelf.

  • Taste:

    Medium mouthfeel, a bit more body than the 12 and 10yr expressions. Honey, lots of fig, caramel, tobacco and some ethanol and pepper. I'm consistently impressed at how much pepper shines through Glengoyne despite being unpeated. Wild.

  • Finish:

    Long finish, peppery, mineral forward, hot and a touch bitter. Interesting and extremely unique.

  • Overall:

    This sits almost perfectly between completely unpeated and a great first step into more avant-garde styles of Scotch whiskey.
