Distilled by Glenlivet, this is a new US release that focuses on the brands extra-aged expressions. It's bottled at 43% ABV and features the same combination of oak and sherry cask maturation featured in other expressions from the brand. It's aged for 21 years. Let's dive in.
Sweet papaya, honey, lemon, big notes of sherry and cream roll in as well. It's impressively fruity with notes like passionfruit colliding with more typical Single Malt notes with a sherried undertone.
Light on the palate, gentle and sweet. Honey, lemon poppyseed, sherried sweetness, currants, honey and stewed fruits. Dates. Faintly peppery.
Short to medium finish, rich with sherry and malt.
Overall, this has plenty going on, but fans of big, powerful, bold, cask strength sherry bombs will find it much too meek and balanced. If you crave balance and a gentle sip, this is for you.
