  • Excerpt: The finish is heavy with the stuff, almost sour and mouth-puckering — and a touch off-putting, marring an otherwise delightfully fun lead-up — proving handily how a little Marsala really can go a long way.

  • Intro:

Distilled by Glenmorangie and aged for 13 years, with a Marsala wine finish, this limited edition release was said to have been created to evoke memories and the pleasantness of sipping scotch by the fire in the winter time. After the runaway success of A Tale Of Cake - the brand's Tokaji finished whiskey, can they bottle lightning twice in a row? Let's find out.

  • Nose:

Bold and sweet, lots of icing, honey, late harvest wine, pears and plums. On the sweet side, though there's some light white pepper, a touch of citrus and a nice honey component.

  • Taste:

Medium mouthfeel, ethanol is placed nicely. Toffee, sweet cream, honey, and pear. Light bitterness, a touch of spice like clove and pepper.

  • Finish:

Long finish, sweet first with some oak, toffee, clove and peppery spice to balance the sweetness. Surprising dryness.

  • Overall:

Enjoyable and unique, the bitter, dry character on the palate and finish is surprising and detracts from the overall experience a bit.

  • Score:

    5
