  • Intro:

Distilled in 2005 by the Glenturret Distillery, this single cask of Scotch whiskey was bottled by Gordon MacPhail under the Connoisseurs Choice label after 14 years of aging in a first fill sherry hogshead. Distilled in 2005, bottled in 2019 and at a strength of 52.8, this release was bottled without coloring or filtering. Let's dive in.

  • Nose:

Pungent raisin bread, honey, toffee, buttery butterscotch, pound cake and loads of tobacco. Extremely inviting, there's no doubting the sherry influence here, with plenty of that delectable Glenturret base malt peeking through.

  • Taste:

Rich cream, Dole fruit syrup, toffee, fig, blueberry preserve, caramel, creamy sweetness and a nice pop of pepper and ginger. Proof is right on, rich without punishing heat in any regard.

  • Finish:

Long finish, a touch of ash and slate, with plenty of decadent sherry character. Toffee, maple, cream, blackberry, blueberry, cherry cordial and a touch of dark chocolate.

  • Overall:

This is a winner from Glenturret, up there with the best expressions that I've had from them. Their distillate handles oak and sherry influence so well, and it shows here.

  • Score:

    7
