This is a 12 year old "Highland Style" single malt scotch whiskey from Total Wine in the form of a house brand bottling. This is almost certainly both colored and filtered. Let's get to it.
Youthful and sweet - apples, pears, faint walnut. Pepper, a bit of heat. Young wet wood.
Thin but benign. Some fair flavor on the palate. Sweet cream, apple and pear. Fresh baked bread.
Short, a bit hot. Some sulfur and a bit of must. Apples and pears once more.
Honestly, and I’m shocked to say this, it isn’t bad. Sure, it’s not great. It’s not even good. But it’s fine. I’d honestly wish every company party would stock this instead of Walker Red or whatever, because this is better. It’s not complex or interesting, but it’s a fine social sipper, and I bet it goes great on a glass of ice on a boat somewhere. Pretty surprised.
