Excerpt: The High Bank Distillery Whiskey War Barrel Proof came across not overwhelmingly aggressive neat, but could be a more useful cocktail ingredient than the regular bottling, should you be able to source it. Fortunately, I don’t think you’re missing much if you can’t, as the regular bottling is quite good. These were both highly impressive, especially for the money.

Bold char, maple and baking spice. Light notes of honeydew, faint citrus.
Moderate mouthfeel, pleasant viscosity and barrel char. Cinnamon, clove, honey and a touch of bitter oak. Ethanol is in check here and adds a really pleasant richness.
Long finish, reminds me of a s’more — it’s packed with cocoa, graham cracker, marshmallow sweetness and a touch of ash and char.
