  • Intro:

Distilled by MGP in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and bottled by Hotaling & Co. in San Francisco, California, this is Hirsch The Horizon. This bourbon is a blend composed of 94% 5-year, 3-month-old bourbon with 21% rye in the mashbill, and 6% 8-year, 2-month-old bourbon with 36% rye in the mashbill.

  • Nose:

Pound cake, cinnamon, candied ginger, maple and a touch of brown sugar. Sweet, a touch spicy, light on the baking spice and a bit of sweet oak.

  • Taste:

Light to moderate palate with no ethanol, but lighter than the nose would suggest in general. Sweet brown sugar, a touch of tropical fruit, honey, cinnamon and sweet oak.

  • Finish:

Long, spicy and maple-forward. Touch of spiced apples and stewed pears, brown sugar and some pepper.

  • Overall:

Totally pleasant but far from powerful or impressive. This release is well-blended and easy to drink, but ultimately light and fruit-forward with touches of sweetness and spice here or there.
