  • Intro:

Distilled by Iron Smoke Distillery, this release features a collaboration with famed musical artist John Petrucci and the New York distillery. Incorporating smoked wheat to the grain bill, this 93pf release is the second in their series with John Petrucci. Let's dive in.

  • Nose:

Woody and char driven, tons of cocoa, honey, toffee, a touch of cola and sweet vanilla. Light pepper notes. Dominantly char forward.

  • Taste:

Moderate mouthfeel. No ethanol. Root beer candies, honey, toffee and a hefty dose of char. Not bitter as the nose would suggest, some really great cocoa, baking spice. Almost a Tootsie Roll note. Rests nicely on the back palate as well, supple and complex. A faint touch of ash and smoke.

  • Finish:

Long finish, cocoa forward, with additional notes of cream, honey, light praline and a hint of vanilla bean. Tannins are fairly bold here once again as well.

  • Overall:

A great second chapter for the Rock The Barrel series created in collaboration with John Petrucci. Many brands let smoked grains run out of control leading to polarizing bottlings but the apple smoked wheat here helps build complexity without becoming overbearing.
