  • Excerpt: While I generally see sourced and blended whiskey as potentially fantastic, I care less about it. I have no doubt Kentucky Owl will flourish now and later, and I will definitely buy a bottle of their Kentucky Owl Park distilled bourbon when it’s available!

  • Excerpt: It drinks hotter than one might expect, but enjoyably so; it's a whiskey that can be simply enjoyed but also rewards exploration.

  • Excerpt: It’s easy to see why folks fell in love with this, and I hope they continue to love it. But for me, the Kentucky Owl Confiscated Bourbon is solidly in the friend-zone.

  • Publication: Breaking Bourbon
  • Excerpt: It has a nice flavor profile bringing more depth and complexity than an average bourbon, but that's where it stops. In a way, I feel like I don't "know" this bourbon. More information about what’s in this bottle could bring me around to it. But until my questions are answered, I walk away seeing this simply as an overpriced bourbon that pushes the limits on what the market is willing to bear.

  • Intro:

Distilled by an undisclosed producer for Kentucky Owl, this Kentucky Straight Bourbon is bottled with no age statement at 48.2% ABV.

  • Nose:

Big maple, waffle batter, caramel honey and spice. It's powerful on the nose, packed with dessert character and no shortage of honey.

  • Taste:

Light oak, thin palate, sweet from start to finish. The palate is where this pour more or less waffles between adequate and successful. There's some tannin here, but the lack of viscosity on the palate is sort of a disappointment when you consider the grandeur of the nose.

  • Finish:

A long, dry finish eases off gently. There's some pleasant redemption here, and the finish integrates brown sugar with oak and clove with spice.

  • Overall:

Overall, this is just fine. It's easy to sip, although it does feel a touch disjointed at times. There are no noticeable flaws, it's pleasant and easy-drinking, and there are absolutely days where that's what your glass needs most.
