This particular bottling has reached some level of fame among the Kilkerran fans. An 8yr expression, bottled at cask strength without coloring or filtering after maturation in an Oloroso sherry cask.
Nutty sherry at first, before jammy fruits arrive. Toffee, brown butter, caramel. Orange marmalade, fig, almost a light lactic character. Intriguing. Enticing.
Sweet on the palate, peppery. Rich mouth feel, plenty of caramel, cherry cordial, orange peel. Nice oak character, the sweetness dries out as it rests on the palate.
Long finish. Faint peat smoke, minerality mixes nicely with the wine character.
This is really interesting - a complex dram for sure. The nutty sherry at first giving way to a jammy selection of notes, before drying into a lightly smoky finish. It’s a great, I’ll agree.
