A blend of 5 whiskeys, this release from New York State's King's County Distillery features whiskey from 2 to 4 years old, from a variety of cask types and mashbills.
Intensely sweet, buttery and loaded with notes like fresh popped popcorn, caramel and honey. It's powerfully malt forward, and signs of youth are apparent left and right.
On the palate, there's a richness and oily viscosity, but overripe oranges, graininess, musty wood and cardboard are intensely perceptible. No heat, there's a pleasant sweetness, but the lack of aging is once again apparent.
Short finish, a blend of caramel, sweet corn, wet paper and maltiness continue.
Overall, this is an improvement on other Kings County releases I've had, but it's clear that while great progress is being made, more age is definitely future releases can hopefully harness.
