  • Excerpt: Knob Creek Rye won’t blow you away by any means. What it will do though is deliver a consistent satisfying pour. Its 100 proof is welcomed, making it bold yet still very palatable.

  • Excerpt: Quite the oily mouthfeel here. Finish continues with char spice and more dried fruits coming through.

  • Excerpt: The taste has notes of toasted rye bread, vanilla, honey, oak, and hints of ginger that develop slowly and last into the complex finish, complementing spicy touches of rye, cinnamon, and vanilla.

  • Excerpt: It sits in-between as a spice bomb which is its own sort of beauty. It also sits at an attractive $40 which makes it an easy choice when looking for a nice spicy rye that can pull double duty on the bar cart.

  • Excerpt: The more I sip on this, the more I get a dusty wood component in the nose. This isn’t unpleasant, but it does give this rye more of a rustic character than you might expect.

  • Excerpt: Interesting in that this starts very muted and bourbon-y and ends quite peppery. I think it works well in a whole bunch of cocktails, but reaching for a neat pour - it’s not my first choice. Fans of spicy rye will flock to this release.

  • Intro:

Knob Creek Rye whiskey is produced by Beam and bottled at 50% ABV while often taking advantage of a sub $30 pricetag.

  • Nose:

Brown sugar, clove, a hint of rye spice and clove. Not super spicy on the nose, sweet and loaded with bakery characteristics that are sort of unexpected but welcome.

  • Taste:

Brown sugar, salted caramel, toffee and some cinnamon. Clove spice, pecan, pepper and a bit of ginger. There’s the spice - it’s late to the party but not absent. Spicy on the back palate

  • Finish:

Short finish, a bit hotter than expected, but it’s rye for sure. Orange zest, pepper and clove.

  • Overall:

Interesting in that this starts very muted and bourbon-y and ends quite peppery. I think it works well in a whole bunch of cocktails, but reaching for a neat pour - it’s not my first choice. Fans of spicy rye will flock to this release.
