  • Excerpt: Interestingly enough, this uses sherry in much the same was as the 2021 Cairdeas, but just can't swing for the fences. The result is a muted, closed off dram that manages to take a step back from the original 10yr.

  • Excerpt: The Laphroaigness of the whisky is very much present, but with a pleasant, and not overpowering sherry influence to dress it up a little.

  • Excerpt: It is gentle, and though it diverges from its typical flavor profile, the boost in abv is always a welcome attribute. These qualities may work for someone pining away for a different take on the 10-year-old Islay staple.

  • Excerpt: The sweetness and fruity impressions here have worked to smooth out the edges of this peaty dram, making it ideal for those whose palates are more easily overwhelmed by peat and smoke.

  • Excerpt: The palate explodes with beautiful dried fruits that casually mingle with the core tar and smoke flavors, along with pops of vanilla and honey that are followed by some fresh orange and grapefruit on the finish.

  • Intro:

Distilled by Laphroaig, matured for 10 years and finished in Oloroso sherry casks, this new release is bottled at 48% abv and seems poised to capture the attention of sherried malt drinkers with an eye towards the peatier side.

  • Nose:

Rich on the nose, acrid and smoke forward. Iodine, bandages, maritime air, a light salinity and some blackberry. Fairly closed off.

  • Taste:

Sweet at first, thin to medium mouthfeel that's berry forward, has quite a bit of icing sweetness and some light oakiness.

  • Finish:

Long finish, ashy and muted. A touch of malt, cinnamon, and blueberry.

  • Overall:

Interestingly enough, this uses sherry in much the same was as the 2021 Cairdeas, but just can't swing for the fences. The result is a muted, closed off dram that manages to take a step back from the original 10yr.
