Excerpt: Very very good, I think, just somewhat lacking inspiration, oomph, and complexity. As if some re-racking in newish bourbon oak had occurred at some point. Not too sure
Excerpt: Light and silken on the nose, palate and finish it’s lost some of that raw elemental delivery of it’s younger counterparts that I love so much but it’s been replaced with refined sweet and citrus notes that bring a different perspective to this fantastic distillery.
Excerpt: The taste is thick and sweet at first, with the peat taking a few seconds to develop to an intense spiciness that fades to reveal notes of dried apricots, pears, and a bit of apple.
Excerpt: It all finishes up with that famous Laphroaig peat, moderate in finish and not burning at all despite its 96 proof alcohol level. All in all, perhaps my favorite Laphroaig expression to date.
Excerpt: Soothing honeyed malt, creamy vanilla, and toffee provide a bed for peat smoke, charcoal, and tar; along with more subtle brine, smoked seaweed, anise, ginger, and citrus.

House Review
Intro:
Laphroaig is a Beam/Suntory scotch distillery in the Islay region of scotch. Known for several core age stated products, they also specialize in funky one-offs that make little sense and generally carry no age statements.
Nose:
Lots more sweetness, mostly in the vanilla note with a hint of oak. Then the smoke kicks back in, although much covertly.
Taste:
Much better blended than the 10, the smoke and peat subdue a little bit and concede to some citrus and vanilla sweetness.
Finish:
Longer and less rough. This reminds me of the difference between Lagavulin 12 and 16 but a bit more exaggerated.
Overall:
This dram is a lot sweeter, and a lot less brash. Whether that is more favorable to the drinker is really up to him. I like it better than the 10, by a little bit.
