  • Excerpt: There's quite a bit of heat on the finish, but a large cube will soften the burn and bring out more caramel and fruit from the mix.

  • Excerpt: The bourbon’s peppery elements are well-integrated into a racy palate that eventually finds its way to a finish of blackberry and more spice — with just a hint of saline creeping into the mix, but maybe that’s just me.

  • Excerpt: The flavor, however, departs from that wheater bourbon profile, and is akin to setting that platter of brown sugar down on the barn floor: earthy, leathery and oaky. It tastes much more wizened than expected.

  • Excerpt: Batch A122 surprises. It’s a bold adventure in flavor, but a bit hot at times and not what you would expect for a wheated bourbon with its underlying earthy notes.

  • Intro:

Distilled by Heaven Hill, Larceny Barrel Proof A122 is a barrel proof bottling of the brands flagship wheated bourbon mashbill product. This is the first release of the 2022 season, and will be the first of three bottlings under the Larceny Barrel Proof line releasing to stores across the country.

  • Nose:

Sweet cream, honey, buttered pecans and toffee. Dessert forward, packed with caramel and creamy sweetness on the nose. No ethanol here.

  • Taste:

Red hots, brown sugar, toffee and buttercream. Rich and viscous. A little more cinnamon than previous years, but it's not overbearing and melds so nicely with those sweet, wheater notes. Proof is well placed and drinks with great texture.

  • Finish:

Long, silky finish. Viscous and rich, spicy and then sweet. Maple candies, clove, ginger and a touch of cinnamon.

  • Overall:

Overall, Larceny Barrel Proof continues to be a delight, packed with flavor and enviable quality that you can actually find on the shelf from time to time. With a MSRP of $59.99, it's also a great value, and delivers one of the best available high proof wheaters a whiskey fan can find.
