  • Excerpt: This one was tough. It had way more spice and oak than expected from the mash bill and aging. At a guess, it might be best served with a few small cubes or one large one. The balance expresses itself more vibrantly with the addition of water.

  • Excerpt: Laws is steadily pushing their whiskey towards middle age, although this one isn’t quite there yet. None the less, the results really do continue to improve, step-by-step. The 8 year old bonded four grain shows some sophistication while remaining very approachable, making it a plain delicious sipper.

  • Intro:

This is the 2022 release of Colorado distillery Laws Whiskey House's Four Grain bottled-in-bond bourbon, made from a mashbill of 60% corn, 20% heirloom wheat, 10% heirloom rye, 10% heirloom malted barley. This is batch 6 of this expression, which is Colorado's first bottled-in-bond bourbon. Let's dive in!

  • Nose:

Loaded with honey, light peanut brittles, toffee, faint espresso and sweet butterscotch.

  • Taste:

Pleasant on the palate, it’s like a warm bit of scone, flaky pastry, laced with honey and a touch of almond. Butterscotch, salted caramel, pleasant and sweet oak.

  • Finish:

Oh, this is a lovely finish. Long, sweet, complex and laced with complexity and tons of character.

  • Overall:

This release is a beauty from Laws, easily the best I’ve had. Loaded with butterscotch, salted caramel, honey, wafer cookies and cake batter, this sweet and pleasantly oaky pour is a delight from start to finish.
