  • Excerpt: Overall, not the most impressed with this edition, especially compared to 4 and 6. This is more barrel forward than malt driven and the peppery wood influence isn't doing so hot.

  • Intro:

The 5th Edition in Macallan's Edition line, this specific bottling sees maturation in 3 types of vessel: 1st fill barrels, 2nd fill barrels and American Oak hogshead.

  • Nose:

Tons of caramel initially, wafer cookie, oak, dry pepper and some spice. Not super complex, far from a sherry bomb.

  • Taste:

Thin to medium mouth feel. Barrel forward to say the least - quite a bit of tannin, toffee, vanilla bean, caramel, pepper and almost a hint of rye spice.

  • Finish:

Medium finish. Dry, a bit of caramel, pear, rising bread.

  • Overall:

Overall, not the most impressed with this edition, especially compared to 4 and 6. This is more barrel forward than malt driven and the peppery wood influence isn't doing so hot.
