  • Excerpt: Overall, it's always tough when a release that heralds the best of the best from a distillery also carries the minimum allowable ABV, but in this case, Midleton's 2022 edition of Very Rare manages to hang onto quite a bit of flavor, and make for an enjoyable pour. It won't blow your head off with flavor, but then again, that's not quite the hallmark of a well composed whiskey anyways, and 2022 really demonstrates a good deal of flavor and complexity, for an enjoyable sip.

  • Excerpt: It is not among my favorite expressions of Midleton Very Rare (1996, 1997, 2000, and 2021) because it lacks the depth that I found in those. But it is still a must-have bottle. I believe that It’s actually impossible to refuse to enjoy a glass of Midleton Very Rare.

  • Intro:

The 2022 limited edition from Midleton comes to us this fall in the form of Midleton's Very Rare Release! A combination of 12 to 33 year old whiskey, each years Vintage Release is an expensive, special, very limited bottling. Let's dive in.

  • Nose:

Sweet cream, honey, vanilla bean, caramel and nougat. Light on oak, faint baking spice, lovely waffle cone and while the nose is light, it's impressively complex.

  • Taste:

Sweet praline, buttery biscuits, toffee, a touch of confectioners sugar, cream and light oak.

  • Finish:

Moderate finish, complex and well layered despite the low proof. It's satisfying, hangs on the palate nicely with plenty of nougat and caramel.
