  • Excerpt: The proof just aids in pushing all of the flavors through, which is also due to the age of the whiskey. I think this is an incredible release, and very on-profile with what I expect from Old Carter Whiskey Co. The price is pretty steep, but I subjectively think in this case it’s worth it.

  • Intro:

Distilled at an undisclosed producer (MGP), this 13yr American Whiskey comes to us from the folks at Old Carter Whiskey Company. Bottled at barrel proof.

  • Nose:

Big pancake and syrup notes, waffle cone, honey, praline and toffee. All sweet and maple forward, enticing and dessert-like.

  • Taste:

Rich on the palate. A hint of bitter oak, but not overbearing. Ethanol is surprisingly in check. Peaches and cream, apple pie, honey and a lovely clove and maple syrup note.

  • Finish:

Long finish. The heat is noticeable here but still very meek, instead the spotlight is on the cake batter, honey, cashew, toffee and some great creme brulee notes. Oak is powerful here and extremely well integrated.

  • Overall:

Nicely done Old Carter. Priced a bit higher than I'd like, there's no denying the quality of the blend here, and the whiskey speaks for itself. If whiskey fans can shake the negative historical connotations to the lack of a Straight Bourbon designation, they'll be rewarded on first sip with Old Carter's American Whiskey bottlings.
