  • Excerpt: There’s a lot of similarity between this and Old Elk Wheat Whiskey, the bourbon elements working well to temper some of the Wheat Whiskey’s sweetness.

  • Excerpt: I'm typically wary of infinity blends that seem to try and throw too many profiles in a sip that end up coming across as noise. This release, however, works.

  • Intro:

Old Elk's Infinity Blend is bottled at 57.05% ABV. The makeup is fairly insane — truly an infinity blend: 18% Old Elk 2021 Infinity Blend of Straight Bourbon Whiskeys; 15% Old Elk Straight Bourbon Whiskey aged 7 years; 9% Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey aged 13 years; 6% Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, aged 12 years; and 52% Old Elk Wheat Whiskey aged 7 years. Wowzers. Let's dive in!

  • Nose:

Big, bold and rich on the nose: spices galore, cinnamon, nutmeg and cocoa blend with creamy sweetness, caramel and toffee.

  • Taste:

Moderate to rich mouthfeel. Plenty of apple, brown butter, salted caramel, big oak notes and plenty of spice here as well. It drinks a touch on the younger side but is full of complexity.

  • Finish:

Long finish, full of brown sugar, toffee, cream and sweet oak. Layers and layers of spice make this finish a winner, it stays interesting sip after sip.

  • Overall:

I'm typically wary of infinity blends that seem to try and throw too many profiles in a sip that end up coming across as noise. This release, however, works. Hats off to Greg!
