This is a new release of a year older Peerless rye. I'm certain we all remember the day that Peerless 24 month rye hit the market at $120. Thankfully, this is a year older, and being sold in 200ml bottles - something I'm thankful for. I wish more producers empowered customers with more atypical formats. I know I'd take a lot more risks on 200ml bottles, rather than not spend any money at all if I can only buy 750ml bottles, etc. Anyways, this release is still using a sweet mash system and is bottled at cask strength. Lets dive in.
Rich cream, fresh toffee, new cut grass, light cardboard. Rich clove, allspice, cinnamon.
Thin to mefium mouth feel, lots of clove and allspice. Rye spice is there with a kick alongside some heavy ethanol. This is definitely well developed with an additional year of aging, and has some nice oak structure. Moist malty cardboard on the back palate.
Short, hot and more musty than the palate. Sawdust, oak, toffee, clove.
Nice progression from last years releases, but this yearns for more barrel time as well. Maybe next year, Peerless.
