Excerpt: These Puncher’s Chance special releases have shown in general that they’re finding fertile ground in the market for well-aged bourbon with secondary cask finishes.
Excerpt: Once a whiskey gets to 14 years, the risk of being over-oaked is usually the biggest conundrum, but here things have managed to escape the hurdle with pleasant results, perhaps owing to the finishing in rum casks, which seems to work out well here.
Excerpt: An earthy note of black tea adds to the same array of flavors on the palate as on the nose, with hints of stewed fruit and subtle herbaceousness. The finish is a bit abrupt and rather spicy and hot.

House Review
Intro:
Distilled by an undisclosed distiller (or multiple distilleries) in Kentucky and bottled by Wolf Spirits, this bourbon comes to us after 14 years of aging, including a finish in Jamaican dark rum barrels.
Nose:
Big punch of nutty sweetness on the nose. Maple, tobacco, peanut brittle, pralines and funky brown sugar. Enticing and sweet. The nose lacks Jamaican funk, interestingly enough.
Taste:
Sweet on the palate, rich with oak and brown sugar first, honey, tobacco and a touch of apple pie second.
Finish:
Long finish. Fruity with apples, pears, a touch of mango and a light dash of hogo (Jamaican rum funk).
Overall:
This pour is interesting. It starts heavy on the bourbon and ends with a spritely, estery rum touch. Fans bored of oak, spice and vanilla will be delighted at a new, interesting sip that challenges preconceived notions.
