Recently, John from Bourbon Finder and I were chatting about doing some blind samples for one and other. Coupled with the fact he was interested in trying agave, we agreed to meet up and share some blind samples of a couple expressions of stuff we had been drinking. This is a blind sample from that, and I was given the reveal after completing all 4 samples and sending over my notes. Let's dive in.
Pungent and musty, almost like a well aged armagnac. Blackberry, toffee, nice oak. Creamy sweetness, pipe tobacco.
Sweet grape, apple, black currant and tannic oak. Medium mouth feel, some heat. Really dry and oaky on the back palate, very congruent with a brandy, once again.
Long, but a bit hot. Coffee, toffee, oak, grape and musty pipe tobacco.
Really interesting and delicious. This was revealed to me to be Pursuit Episode 018, a younger release from Finger Lakes Distilling. I've not had anything from them before, but this was phenomenal given the age, I'm sort of blown away that they're performing this well so young. I'm going to make it a priority to try more from them now.
