    Buffalo Trace

  • ABV:

    45%

  • Age:

  • Intro:

This is the Fall 2012 Release of Buffalo Traces coveted Antique Collection member: Sazerac Rye 18yr. This is their tanked rye distillate.

  • Nose:

Floral fruity rye, spearmint, caramel, vanilla sweetness. Overall, its a lot mintier than I remember Saz rye being, but given that the 6yr is super herbal, I can see this developing into that, despite the differences in the product.

  • Taste:

Medium thickness, no heat at all. Sweet rye spice, pine and spearmint, vanilla. Its herbal, really rich and leans into the pine, spearmint and floral woodland notes. Really interesting.

  • Finish:

Long and sweet lots of dry rye spice and spearmint

  • Overall:

Very good, and certainly well made, but not my preferred rye profile - all spearmint and floral grassy notes. I would love to try this at a greater proof, but in the BTAC lineup, THH is my rye guy for sure, and this falls behind a hair.
